Stop 1: The Netherlands
Windmills, canals, dykes, cheese, clogs, bicycles, tulips, and the colour orange. Spannend! Exciting!
Stop 2: Germany
Beethoven, Bach, Black Forest, brattwurst, Berlin Wall, BMW and 25,000 castles! Wunderbar! Wonderful!
Stop 3: Denmark
Copenhill, Copenhagen, Hans Christian Anderson, Lego, licorice, and a lifestyle of Hygge: Happiness!
Stop 4: England
London, Lions, The River Thames, double-deckers, dialects, country houses, high tea, music and myths. Splendid!
Stop 5: Scotland
Highlands, lochs and rivers, bagpipes, tartan kilts and clans, haggis, neeps and tatties. Braw! Fantastic!
Stop 6: Ireland
Emerald Isles, cliffs and causeways, folklore, limericks, blessings, music and dance. Meallacach! Charming!
Stop 7: France
Eiffel Tower, The Louvre, fashion, art, crepes and cheese, bicycles and baguettes. La belle! The beautiful one!
Stop 8: Spain
Gaudi, Picasso, tapas, paella, siestas and fiestas, flamenco and football, olive oil and oranges. Estupendo! Wonderful!
Stop 9: Italy
Venice, The Vatican, Rome and Pompei, gelato, cappuccino, pizza and pasta. Bellisimo! Beautiful!
Stop 10: Albania
Golden eagles, tolerance and traditions, cifteli and k’cimi, olive trees and cherries.
I shkëlqyer! Fabulous!
Stop 11: Montenegro
Budva, Herceg Novi, beaches and bays, phoenix and mimosa, gusla and stories, families and traditions.
Predivno! Superb!
Stop 12: Turkiye
Ephesus, Pammakule, saints, grey wolves, baths and bazaars, tulips, mosques, hazelnuts and hospitality.
Hayran birakan! Fascinating!
We’re off to Europe . . .
It sounds a little crazy, at least to me, that we will be traveling through Europe for 12 months! We will have a unique opportunity to be immersed in the diverse cultures, languages, landmarks, and histories of each country. The year-long journey will help me uncover the nuances of each destination to add richness and depth to each of the stories I write.
